OURAY, Colo. – Officials at the Box Canyon Lodge & Hot Springs in Ouray, Colo., announced today that visitors will get much more than they pay for this Earth Day, April 23. To recognize patrons who share the property owners’ passion for all things “green,” anyone who drives a hybrid or electric vehicle to the lodge on Earth Day is invited to stay the night for free. That’s a $99 value! To book call 800-327-5080 and mention the Earth Day promotion.

Box Canyon Lodge is celebrated for its four natural hot springs and its close proximity to the Ouray Ice Park, Box Canyon Falls and a charming historic main street in the stunning foothills of the San Juan Mountains. Heralded as the “Switzerland of America,” Ouray, Colo., is breathtaking in all seasons and appeals to couples, families and solo adventurers looking to experience the beauty and climate of this not-so-hidden gem.

Seeing the incredible natural landscape surrounding the property, it is not surprising that the Box Canyon Lodge takes its commitment to the environment seriously. So seriously, in fact, that it earned the prestigious 4 Green Key rating from the Green Key Eco-Rating Program for its efforts to “go green.”

From a geothermal heating system throughout the property run on energy from natural hot springs, to environmentally friendly cleaning products and earth-conscious toiletries in every guest room, owners Rich and Karen Avery have truly gone green. The Averys have replaced all of the windows with more energy efficient models, put in new “Green Label Plus” rated carpet, added insulation in the form of new guest room doors and updated older light fixtures with more efficient models. To make an even more positive impact, they made sure all usable items were recycled or sent to Habitat for Humanity to be re-used when the lodge was finished with them.

“When you’re in a place this pristine, who wouldn’t want to do everything in their power to keep it that way?” said Rich Avery. “Our Earth Day promotion is our small way of saying ‘thank you’ to others who are doing their part to make the world a better place by reducing their carbon footprint.”

Avery also notes that the property uses local suppliers and service providers that demonstrate a commitment to the environment and the community, whenever possible. Even the light continental breakfast the property provides its guests consists of pastries from a local caterer and coffee from a local roaster.
