Highway-50 has reopened just east of Montrose at Mile Marker-124 where a tanker hauling more than 6-thousand gallons of fuel overturned at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday and caught fire. Neither the driver nor passenger in the single vehicle accident was injured in spite of a raging inferno that melted a portion of the roadway.
A Colorado State Patrol spokesperson says one lane of Highhway-50 remains blocked and motorists can still expect delays as flaggers allow traffic through. The busy roadway is the main artery into Montrose for drivers headed westbound. The road was reopened approximately 12-hours after a trucker failed to negotiate a curve, overturning the truck in the process. It doesn’t appear that any of the fuel made it into a nearby canal. The precise cause of the accident remains under investigation.
