The Montrose Recreation District is on a roll.  First the Rec-District acquired a large parcel and seed money for a new Recreation Center and Aquatic Center, and now in a joint effort with the city of Montrose, the fun activity specialists have announced the Recreation District has been awarded $259-thousand for the Montrose Water Sports Park and River Trail and Field Renovation project.

Montrose Recreation District Executive Director Ken Sherbenou says the project was one of only eight selected by the Great Outdoors Colorado Board.  The GOCO funding comes primarily from state lottery proceeds.

Sherbenou says plans call for building a whitewater park on the Uncompahgre River through Baldridge Park that will support kayaking, tubing, and swimming.  Additionally, approximately 2-thousand feet of concrete trail and 1,900 of soft surface dirt trail will be laid along the river.
