The Ward Gulch Fire grew on Monday and is now over 485-acres big just outside of Rifle.   National Forest Service Chief Public Information Officer Pat Thrasher says Highway-325 remains closed north of the intersection of Grass Valley Road.

Over 200 fire fighting personnel are actively working the fire.  Thrasher says investigators believe the fire was caused by a lightning storm that moved through the area during late morning, last Friday.

Thrasher says that no structures are immediately threatened by the blaze, and protecting the watershed for the Rifle Falls Fish Hatchery is a top priority.  Luckily there have been no injuries and no buildings have been damaged in the blaze.
