Fire season is upon us and now the heat is getting turned up closer to home.  Fire fighters are now contending with a new blaze burning 13-miles outside of Ridgway in the Uncompahgre National Forest near Silver Jack Reservoir.  The East Fork Fire has consumed over 100-acres and is burning in steep terrain that is difficult to access.  Fire Information Officer Rick Barton says several personnel are now attacking the blaze in addition to the multiple smoke jumpers who were assigned to lead the suppression.

Barton says the public is discouraged from entering the area around the fire and multiple roads and trails have been closed in the region:  Owl Creek Pass, Big Cimarron, Little Cimarron and High Mesa Roads (Forest Service Roads 858, 864,864.A) as well as Silver Jack Reservoir. This area includes the following Forest Service Trails: Alpine Trail (FST 225), East Fork Trail (FST 228), Little Cimarron Trail (FST 229), Fall Creek Trail (FST 230,231), Big Park Trail (FST 234), Middle Fork Trail (FST 227) and Wetterhorn Basin Trail (FST 226).

Stage One fire restrictions will be implemented Monday in the Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests.
