Application packets to fill a vacancy on the Montrose City Council are now available. A vacancy on the dais occurred last week when Councilor Thomas Smits announced he was resigning because he was moving out of District-1, the area he was elected to represent. Councilors must now appoint a new member to fill out the remainder of Smits’s term which expires on April 1st, 2014.
Montrose City Clerk Lisa Delpiccolo says District-1 residents interested in applying to fill the vacancy can call and stop in to the City Clerk’s office to obtain a packet or can download them from the city’s website. The deadline for submission is July 30th. Applicants must have resided in District-1 for 12 consecutive months and be eligible to register to vote in order to be considered for the position. District-1’s boundaries are essentially at City Limits on Spring Creek Road to the west and at Road-6350 to the east.
Sitting Councilors will sift through the applications during their Work Session on the afternoon of August 5th and will likely make their selection when they reconvene in regular session that night.
