The search for a new Chief of Police for Ouray continues. The position has been vacant for months and Montrose Police Commander Gene Lillard is providing a stopgap by serving as interim Chief until a permanent, fulltime replacement can be recruited. Ouray may not be the most affordable community on the Western Slope in which to reside and the Chief’s salary range there is between $52-thousand $72-thousand annually.
Ouray City Administrator Patrick Rondinelli says the process for hiring a new Chief will involve applicants being interviewed by a committee and the City Administrator. The city has received at least 10-applications so far but may reserve the option of seeking out more candidates before narrowing down the list of applicants to be interviewed.
