There has already been one confirmed case of West Nile Virus in Delta County requiring the hospitalization of the patient and the projection is for a fairly active “West Nile Virus” season. Delta County Memorial Hospital spokesperson Patti Kalahar says practicing the “4-Ds” will help residents avoid contracting the debilitating virus that begins with flu like symptoms.
(1. Dress to protect yourself
2. Drain standing water
3. Use DEET or other mosquito repellants
4. Minimize outdoor activity at Dawn and Dusk)
Kalahar says it’s important to consult a physician if stricken by the virus. Getting the proper treatment early on can make a huge difference in the longevity and severity of the effects of West Nile Virus.
