The walk to school may be a little safer for some Montrose school students starting in 2014. City Public Works Director John Harris says the City Council has authorized an agreement between the city and CDOT for the design and construction of the Pamona/Columbine Safe Routes to School project.
The $250-thousand grant will be used to improve and widen sidewalks on routes used by students to walk to school. The process of identifying the routes and which sidewalks will be expanded is now underway. Harris says additional benefits to the project include the opportunity to possibly improve the crosswalk near Columbine Middle School. Construction is slated to begin in spring, 2014 and should take up to 90-days to complete.
