A 17-year old Montrose teen apparently drowned while swimming in the Uncompahgre River at Taviwach Park west of Townsend Avenue, north of Main Street, just before Midnight on Monday.   Montrose Police Chief Tom Chinn says police were notified of the incident by other teens the male victim was at the park with.  Authorities are still in the process of notifying the victim’s immediate family members.  Divers with the Mesa County Dive Team are assisting today with the recovery of the body.

Chinn says all city and county waterways are off limits to swimming and rafting and pose a safety hazard to recreationists who violate the law.
