Will green leafs be allowed to wilt in Silt? That’s a question civic leaders in the rural community are expected to tackle during a Special Meeting on August 19th at Silt City Hall. The public will be encouraged to weigh-in on whether Silt should join a number of other municipalities along the Western Slope, like Montrose, in prohibiting marijuana sales in spite of the passage of Amendment-64 which legalized cannabis in Colorado.
The Western slope may very well be the political antithesis of the Front Range on a number of issues, such as land use and conservation and retail sales of marijuana. Many community leaders have adopted a wait and see attitude, hoping to observe how other communities tackle the issue and deal with the conflict between federal and state law regarding marijuana.
