It’s official: 17 year old Luis Eduardo Estrada-Juarez died as the result of accidental drowning. Montrose County Coroner Dr. Thomas Canfield worked overtime to conduct the autopsy as soon as possible and County Communications Director Katie Yergensen released the autopsy results on Wednesday.
Juarez was swimming in Taviwach Park on Monday in a deep pond situated close to the Uncompahgre River. Swimming in the area is prohibited—but very alluring during the peak heat of summer. Expert swimmers and divers with Mesa County’s Search and Rescue team helped locate the body, vowing to stay in Montrose until they recovered the teenage victim.
