Sweet corn is to Olathe what peaches are to Palisade and the importance of the crop is perhaps best symbolized by the annual Sweet Corn Festival held in Olathe each year since 1992.  Sweet Corn is the tiny hamlet’s signature crop and the upcoming Sweet Corn Festival on August 3rd is Olathe’s signature event.  Festival organizing committee Chairman Todd Queen says new events await this year’s Sweet Corn Festival goers, assuring that neither the freshly harvested sweet maze nor the activities are stale.

Queen says the Olathe Sweet Corn festival is about a lot more than a sweet harvest:  it’s about bringing people together and sharing a sense of community and accomplishment.  Consumers may be able to purchase Olathe Sweet Corn at market, but the sense of pride, unity, and good old fashioned fun is something that can only be served up at a truly unique and locally based gathering like the Olathe Sweet Corn Festival in the park in Olathe this Saturday.
