Approximately 72-hours after a direct lightning strike took out a transformer in Nucla weather related issues disrupted power in Ridgway on Tuesday.  San Miguel Power Association Communications Director Becky Mashburn says technicians believe a combination of heavy rain and lightning tripped a fault on a line that services the southwest portions of the Ridgway area along country roads 5 and 24C as well as the Elk Meadows subdivision.

Approximately 80 Ridgway customers were impacted for less than an hour but more severe weather may be on the way.  Mashburn urges San Miguel Power customers to contact the power company right away if their lights go out, or if they observe damaged lines, arcing equipment, or anything that might indicate equipment has been damaged by the most recent thunderstorm activity.

Crews and technicians are still in the process of assessing the damage and everyone should be back online.
