Four applicants have made it to the short-list and the interview phase of the recruiting effort currently underway in Ouray to hire a new Chief of Police. Ouray City Administrator Patrick Rondinelli says the process for hiring a new Chief will involve the four finalists being interviewed by a City Council appointed committee and the City Administrator on August 22nd.
Montrose Police Commander Gene Lillard has served as interim Chief in Ouray for several weeks. The Ouray Police Department was left short-handed when the previous Chief and two officers resigned. Rondinelli says that there are offers on the table with two applicants for the officers’ positions and they will be brought on board once they complete the hiring process.
