San Miguel County Sheriff’s deputies aren’t afraid to roll up their sleeves and lend a hand.  Perhaps more than any other law enforcement agency in the region–San Miguel County Sheriff’s deputies go the extra mile for public service.  They spend time giving rides to stranded motorists, assisting lost hikers and bicyclists, giving directions and answering questions from tourists and visitors, assisting with keeping the peace among squabbling neighbors.

On Wednesday the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office was contacted regarding a traffic hazard created by several large rocks that had rolled onto Highway-145 near Silverpick Road.  While some law enforcement agencies may have waited for state road workers to arrive, San Miguel deputies took action knowing that delaying removal of the rolling stones could lead to a motorists being injured or worse.  Deputies went to work and with a little elbow grease were able to successfully move the mini-boulders from the roadway.  The highway was cleared at Mile-Marker 77 without incident.
