Three special interest groups filed a legal challenge over the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s failure to protect the lesser prairie chickens from the oil and gas drilling industry, the ranching industry and humans. Lawyers for the special interest groups want to label the bird as “threatened”. The lawsuit was filed in federal court in Washington, D.C., by Defenders of Wildlife, the Center for Biological Diversity and WildEarth Guardians. The Lesser Prairie Chicken is a part of the Grouse Family. It lives in several western states including Colorado and New Mexico.
