94Kix Mornings

Scott – Caffeinated!!!            (Scott & Mooooose)

Scott’s Nutritional Cleansing Information

You could start your morning without SCOTT STALEY and the “Almost Nearly Not Quite Famous Morning Show”… but we wouldn’t recommend it. You never know what to expect during Scott’s Morning Show with his unique sense of humor, but Scott’s always good for a laugh…even if it is at his own expense.

How did Scott Staley get into radio? Well, the judge said “either work at the radio station, or community service.” The choice was not hard! But seriously, Scott got his start in radio at a Classic Rock Station in Oklahoma City… He actually won an on-air contest, and was later offered an internship at the station. The rest, is history. A few years later, he jumped across town to an Adult Contemporary station… Stir in an Oldies and Hot AC Station along the way, mix with a Country Station or two, and now he calls Western Colorado home.

Scott has picked up several awards throughout the years for his show, including a National Communicator Award for Best Medium Market Show, and 4 Colorado Broadcasters Association Awards.

In addition to being a morning show host, Scott is also the Program Director for all 3 of our radio stations…94KIX, 103.7 THE BLAST, amd AM 580 KUBC, as well as the Music Director.

When he’s not behind the mic, he’s hanging out with his beautiful wife and awesome little daughter (A chip off the ‘ol block). You’ll sometimes hear his daughter on a station commercial or promo.

Catch him weekday mornings from 6 ‘til 10 on Colorado Country 94KIX. (Listen carefully, we’ll need witnesses in court if he says anything offensive).

94 Kix Mid-days

Bee is our midday jock – or jockette – on 94KIX.

Bee was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and came to Montrose via Gunnison, where she graduated from Western State College. After her graduation, she spent 6 weeks in Gunnison working for the college radio station. The week prior to moving back to Tulsa, Bee was offered a job at KUBC and has been here ever since. Bee has been married to her husband, Heath, for 14 years and they have 2 daughters. She has been with this group of radio stations since 1991, and has worn many hats during her employment here.

Catch her Mid-days on 94KIX from 10:00AM – 3:00PM, where she spends most of her time apologizing for Scott’s morning show.

General Manager

JAY AUSTIN

Jay loves radio because of its importance in the everyday life of those who listen and because of the powerful influence it has in getting results for advertisers. Cherry Creek Radio is an excellent company to work for, because they believe strongly that localism is the key to serving the markets where we live and work.

It’s a strange way to have gotten into radio but, in 1976, after spending 7 years in international banking with Commerce Union Bank in Nashville, Tennessee, Jay persuaded the bank to lend money for him, along with a friend, to buy WMGL-FM in Pulaski, Tennessee. Since his first job in radio was owner, the learning curve was pretty steep.

Lured by the chance to actually build a television station from scratch, they sold the radio station, raised the money and began construction of WETO-TV in Greeneville, Tennessee. That station was to become the Fox station serving the Bristol-Kingsport-Johnson City, Tennessee-Virginia market. Over a six year period, Jay spearheaded the construction project and served as General Manager of the station.

After a brief time at WMCC-TV in Indianapolis, Jay realized that radio was the field he really loved, because it has so much more creativity at the local level. So he left TV and went to work for K99-FM in Biloxi, Mississippi.

The chance to return to ownership took Jay and his wife Eileen to McCook to buy Coyote Country (KIOD-FM). They built a second station in McCook and enjoyed 10 years on the tall-grass prairie of Southwest Nebraska and Northwest Kansas.

Suffering from scenery deprivation, they sold the Nebraska stations and headed for Colorado’s Western Slope.

Jay’s outside interests include music, gardening, cooking, photography, motorcycles and enjoying all that the mountains have to offer.

AFT NEWS, EVE ON BLAST, 94 KIX WEEKENDS

JIM KAPP was born who knows where and when and was raised in a foreign place called New York.

His radio background started in up-state New York but when Horace Greeley said, “Go West young man”, Jim actually took his advice… go figure. He landed in New Mexico among a nest of aliens who took him in as one of their own. He spent radio time in Roswell, Grants and Gallup. Due to the radio signals, the aliens keep finding him.

Jim fled New Mexico in 1998 for beautiful Colorado. Despite the voices in his head beckoning him like a dutiful cyborg to come back to New Mexico, the tin foil helmet has provided the protection needed to keep him in Montrose.

His life outside radio includes hiking, biking, swimming 4-wheeling, working out with weights and other tests of the effects of gravitational pull this planet has on objects like Jeeps.

Jim is still influenced by alien ideas as anyone who has enjoyed his humor can attest.

National Sales Manager – Stephanie Aller

Hi, my name is Stephanie Aller.

I have been living in Montrose and working for 94KIX, KUBC, and 103.7 The Blast since 1994.

Before I moved to Montrose, I graduated in1992 from University of Missouri-Columbia with a BSBA in Marketing. I then went on to receive my MBA from the University of Dallas in 1994.

I began visiting the Western Slope in the late 80’s and loved it so much I decided Montrose was where I wanted to live once I was out of school. I enjoy everything the Western Slope has to offer; friendly faces, unique local businesses, the great outdoors, and all my friends and family.

I married my wonderful husband Billy in 2005 and we have a great son, Zane who loves motorcycles as much as his daddy. I love my job with Cherry Creek Radio and couldn’t imagine doing anything else besides helping my clients find the most successful marketing solutions for their businesses. Feel free and call me about any questions you may have about marketing your business.

News Director

JANINE MAYFIELD has become one of the Western Slope’s most respected and well-loved personalities during her 2+ years with 94KIX, KUBC, and The Blast.

Whether your news is a public service announcement, burglary, or a house fire, Janine will not hesitate to cover your story. She brought with her, previous radio news experience and is  the go-to-girl for all three stations.

Janine hails from Akron, Ohio. She’s 29 and graduated from the Ohio Center of Broadcasting in Valley View, Ohio in 2007. She is a 2003 graduate from Walsh University, with a BA in Communications and a minor in English/Writing.

Before packing her life and her cat, Kalli, in her car and heading “out west,” she was a part-time News Editor/Reporter for WAKR in Akron. Chief Engineer

JIM FRANK, our Chief Engineer, is a rarity round here, a true Montrose native. He was born in Montrose Memorial Hospital just in time to live through the 60’s. Jim attended grade school in Grand Junction, and then graduated from Montrose high school in 1977.

He was a physics major at CSU in Fort Collins, took several years off, and got a degree in electronics in 1988.

Jim’s jobs have been varied and interesting, at least to him. He’s built houses, washed dishes, laid concrete, worked in a geotechnical lab, and had an electronic repair business of his own for a while. When he started as a broadcast engineer back in 1994, he found that radio is addictive, and has been doing it ever since.

Jim and his wife are dedicated Christians, and are members of Grace Community Church. Roena teaches five and six year olds, and he help out with the sound system.

His hobbies include blacksmithing, making knives and swords, and  he has a passionate love of acapella singing, especially with Dolce Voce, a local eight member vocal group.
