Four Montrose Teens Suspected in Random Vehicle Shootings

Four 16 year old boys accused of shooting out windows of random vehicles last week were caught just after 11 last Friday night on the corner of Niagara and 6700 road. A Montrose resident named Jennifer who lives in a neighborhood behind Qdoba told KUBC the rear window of her SUV was shot at late Friday while parked in her driveway. She claims there were three holes in the window. According to the Police Blotter 3 of the four teens were charged with marijuana possession.

Man Wanted on Montrose County Felony Charges

Montrose Regional Crime Stoppers and the Montrose County Sheriff’s Office are seeking the help of citizens to locate and apprehend a dangerous armed fugitive from Montrose County, CO.

MARIO CHRISTOVAL GOMEZ is wanted on felony charges out of the Montrose County Sheriff’s Office and is subject to multiple warrants.
He is 32 years of age, 6’ 1” tall and weighs 210 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes, dark complexion, is of the White/Hispanic/Latin race and of Hispanic origin. This fugitive has numerous tattoos on his chest, back and arms.

Mesa County Deputy Shot

A Mesa County Deputy in clinging to life after he was shot at around 11 a.m. Tuesday. 40 year old Derek Geer was chasing an armed 17-year-old male near 30 1/2 road. Geer told the male he was being detained. Police say Geer fired his TASER when the teen ran off. The suspect shot Geer multiple times before running away. The suspect was later caught.

Tanker Truck Crash in Gunnison County

A fuel tanker truck carrying 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel crashed in Taylor Canyon in Gunnison County and ended up partially in the river. The Gunnison county sheriff's office released details of the January 29th crash February 8th. The driver was treated for minor injuries. County officials say minimal fuel if any spilled into the river off of county road 742.

Man Killed in Chaffee County Avalanche

A Woodland Park man is being identified as the victim of a Chaffee County avalanche on Friday. Investigators say Ron Brabander was on a motorized snow bike on top of Cottonwood Pass when he was caught in the slide. It's the first snow bike fatality in Colorado and only the second in the U.S. The Colorado Avalanche Information Center says Brabander was buried under around six-feet of snow.

All Day Kindergarten Bill Not Likely

A bill that would ask Colorado taxpayers to pay for all-day kindergarten appears to be going nowhere in the state Legislature. It was taken up last week, but has yet to be voted on. Those for the measure look at it as an investment in the future. Politicians against argue that all but ten districts in the state already offer all-day school for kindergarteners, even if it's somewhat limited and many charge tuition. The bill is in what's referred to as the "kill committee."

Columbine Student Wins Local Spelling Bee

A Columbine Middle School seventh grader won the 7th Annual Montrose & Olathe School District Spelling Bee. 1st Place winner Jadyn Gorham will represent Montrose County School District at the state “Scripps Bee” in Denver on March 14th. The top 3 spellers from Centennial Middle, Columbine Middle, Olathe Middle, Pomona Elementary, Oak Grove Elementary and Johnson Elementary Schools competed on Wednesday night. Superintendent, Stephen Schiell was the pronouncer and Stu Tolen, Phoebe Benziger and Mike Benziger judged the event.

Check Access To Your Mailbox

The U.S. Postal Service is asking for your help in keeping the mail moving after the recent storm. Officials say they do need some assistance. That includes removing snow from around mailboxes and walkways. In rural areas, carriers should be able to pull up to the mailbox with their vehicle and deliver the mail without getting out.
