Court Agrees with State Versus BLM

A case involving the Bureau of Land Management's fight to regulate fracking on federal land could have implications on the practice in Colorado. A federal judge in Wyoming granted a request by Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and North Dakota to permanently set aside hydraulic fracturing rules issued by the BLM in March of 2015. The states challenged the federal rules and were granted a preliminary injunction last September while the court considered whether the states or the federal government has authority to regulate fracking on land within a state's borders.

The wildfire near the Colorado-Wyoming border is growing. The fire broke out on Sunday afternoon. It has burned about seven-thousand acres of land.

Pitch/Kelso Fires Update

Firefighting the Pitch and Kelso Fires on the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests continue today (Thursday). The Pitch Fire remains at just over 400 acres and the perimeter is holding. The Unaweep Fire Module was reassigned to assist on the Kelso Fire. Other fire resources remain to work on “hot spots” and to ensure the perimeter remains intact.

7 Year Old Shot

A camping trip in Conejos County has turned tragic for a New Mexico family as a seven-year-old child was shot to death. Authorities say it happened Monday on Stunner Pass where the boy was shot in the chest and pronounced dead at the scene.

Gunnison County Scraps Work Release

Beginning July 1st the Gunnison County Detention Center will disband the Work Release Program. One reason is the inability to monitor inmates in the program when they are outside of the facility. The Sheriff's office says There has been frequent violations concerning employment declarations or work presence.

DMV Rates Rise

It's going to cost you more money at the Colorado DMV starting July 1st. Fees to get a driver's license will go up a buck. That will make the total cost 26-dollars under the new pricing plan. Getting a driving record will see a big increase, going up from three to nine-dollars.

Warrant Served in Saguache County Case

Investigators may have cracked a cold case, involving the disappearance and death of a well-known member of the Colorado Springs mountain biking community. Mike Rust disappeared in 2009, and his remains were just found in January near his Saguache County home. CBI served an arrest warrant in the case for Charles Moises Gonzales yesterday on counts including first-degree murder. He's already serving time at the state prison in Canon City on other charges.
