As if you need a reminder this is Super Bowl weekend and that means more officers will be on duty looking for drunk drivers. The Daily Sentinel reports that Mesa Count Sheriff’s Dept. will have 9 deputies working from tonight through the Super Bowl weekend.  These added patrols will be paid for with a $3 thousand grant.  Earlier this week the Colorado State Patrol stated that these extra patrols are needed because last year half of Colorado’s fatal accidents happened during the Super Bowl weekend….

The costs and benefits of oil shale development are being explored at a daylong conference in Denver. KJCT reports that government, industry and environmental leaders all gathered in Denver today to discuss the potential of developing oil shale deposits in Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming.  One of the critical topics on the agenda is the water and energy that will be needed to tap into those oil reserves.  The industry says that the billions of barrels of oil waiting to be tapped from those shales could help cut U.S. reliance on foreign oil….

More than 140 students from seven Western Slope high schools are expected to converge on Mesa State College’s campus Tuesday, February 9th for the 12th annual Math Extravaganza!   The Math Extravaganza! event is hosted by Mesa State’s Math Club.

A Grand Junction woman was arrested after police say she beat up an elderly man for no reason, tried to run him and another person over and assaulting a police officer.  NBC 11 News says that Labrenda Walters Jackson was arrested when authorities caught up with her driving her Suburban in the 1100 block of Orchard Ave.  Her arrest affidavit said that she first yelled at a 67 yr old man then started hitting him.  She also attempted to run him over with her vehicle.  When officers came to subdue her she tried attacking them too.  Jackson is facing a number of charges including menacing and 3rd degree assault…
