Montrose County is currently in the process of fire-proofing the recording vault in the Clerk and Recorder’s Office located in the County Courthouse. Last week employees complained of a chemical smell in the office. Installation of the fire-proof system requires the use of epoxy. Fran Long, Clerk and Recorder, and Dan Moseley, Facilities Director, contacted Richard Thompson, County Environmental Health, for initial consultation of the situation. Following initial conversations with Mr. Thompson, the County contacted the Montrose Fire Department and subsequently a local environmental engineering firm. The environmental engineering firm will be taking a comprehensive air sample this week to determine if there is any level of toxicity and expects to have the results by this Friday, February 12th.
In an effort to take every precaution to ensure the safety of all County employees and the public, the majority of the recording office has been temporarily closed for the remainder of this week. Recording Supervisor Norma Tabor is temporarily working in the Elections Office and may be reached by phone at (970) 252-4577 or e-mail at rtabor@montrosecounty.net. Limited research services (1996 to present) are available on-line. Fran Long apologizes for any inconvenience and thanks the public for their patience and understanding in this matter.
Please direct all questions regarding the temporarily office closure to either Stephanie Barnett or Kristin Scuderi.
