Former Montrose County Commissioner David White told KUBC that assistant county manager Dave Laursen may be the next casualty of the new commissioner administration. Last week Commissioners Roger Rash and Keith Caddy terminated the contract of county Attorney Teresa Williams. The commissioners did not cite a reason for the termination.

Fugitive On The Loose

The Delta Police Department has issued a warrant for the arrest of James H. Catlin, age 31, of North Quincy, Massachusetts, charging him with alleged Vehicular Homicide, Vehicular Assault, Unlawful Use of a Controlled Substance, Driving Under the Influence (Alcohol), Driving Under the Influence Per SE (Alcohol), Driving Under the Influence (Drugs), Reckless Driving and Reckless Endangerment. James Catlin is described as a white male age 31, 5’9” tall, 175 pounds, with blue eyes and brown hair. The warrant was issued on March 13, 2017 as a result of an extensive investigation in regards to a two vehicle head on collision which occurred on February 6, 2017 in the 1300 block of Highway 50 North. Drugs and alcohol were implicated in the cause of the crash.

Two Men Face Money Laundering Charges

Two men from Florida were arrested and jailed on Wednesday morning in Montrose on Identity theft, and money laundering charges. 45 year old Jaun Castaneda-Quintana and 48 year old Lazaro Molina-Martinez are also facing conspiracy and theft charges.

Storm Sewer Work to Begin at Rio Grande and South 5th Street

Montrose Man Charged with Assault and Menacing

A Montrose man is facing charges after reportedly choking a woman on Monday. The Montrose Daily Press is reporting 30 year old Marcelino Martinez forced his way into a home on south 2nd street and when a relative attempted to leave the home, Martinez held her at knife-point and attempted to choke the woman.

Skeletal Remains Identified

Per Montrose County Press Release:
On Saturday, October 29, 2016, hunters in the Sawmill Mesa area of the Uncompahgre Plateau west of Montrose reported the finding of skeletal material believed to be human remains. The Montrose County Sheriff’s Office and the Montrose County Coroner's Office of Medical Investigations with the help of the Montrose County Sheriff’s Posse recovered bones and fragments of clothing. A forensic autopsy was ordered by Montrose County Coroner Dr. Thomas M. Canfield, MD and performed by Dr. Michael Benziger, MD at the Montrose Memorial Hospital Forensic Laboratory. The bones were considered consistent, but not definitive, as those of Gerry “Hoop” Reed, a 56 year-old male of Nucla, Colo.

Man Dies after Skiing Accident

A man is dead following a skiing accident last month at Buttermilk Mountain in Aspen. Officials say 20-year-old Andrew Garcia of Oklahoma died four days after hitting a tree on February 19th. Garcia was snowboarding at the time.
