Highway Deaths Rising

CDOT is urging people to buckle up, as the number of highway deaths around Colorado is on the rise. As of September 20th, 423 people had died in crashes this year, which compared to 415 at the same time in 2015. Nearly 150 of the 2016 crash victims were not using seat belts.

Traffic Deaths Rise

Colorado is seeing a ten-percent rise in traffic deaths for 2015. Nearly 550 people were killed on state roads during the year. That compares to nearly 490 the year before. CDOT Executive Director Shailen Bhatt says that means his department is doubling down on its traffic safety outreach this year. That includes efforts to increase seat belt usage.

Two Rafters Killed Near Moab

Families and friends are mourning the deaths of a couple of men who were tossed from rafts into the Colorado River near Moab. The Grand County Sheriff's Office says Adam Ericksen of Bountiful, Utah and Charles McLynch of Bay Shore, New York, were in separate rafts yesterday (Thursday) when the rafts were overwhelmed by rapids in Westwater Canyon.
