Construction of a multi purpose event center was approved by Montrose county commissions this week. Commissioners voted 2 to 1 (at a well attended board meeting) for Ridgway Valley to build a 93,000 square foot arena that will cost 8.5 million dollars plus interest. Proponents say the arena will boost tourism. The issue has come under fire from critics including incoming commissioner Keith Caddy who claims it is not a necessity.
