Romney's Nephew Running for Governor

The nephew of former Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney is now running for governor of Colorado. Investment banker Doug Robinson announced his candidacy for the 2018 race in a letter sent to Republican supporters. In his letter, the KPMG banker touted his experience in business as the reason why he would be the best choice.

Brauchler Will Run For Governor

The man who tried the case against Aurora theater shooter James Holmes will run for governor next year. George Brauchler tells the "Denver Post" he will announce his candidacy for the Republican nomination today. Brauchler says he will focus on education and transportation as the two main issues in his campaign.

Lieutenant Govenor Nominee from NY

Governor Hickenlooper is nominating Donna Lynne to be his new lieutenant governor. She could replace Joe Garcia in the post after he leaves at the end of April for a position with the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education. Hickenlooper says Lynne is uniquely qualified to take on the new role.

Gov. Creates Mascot Commission

Governor Hickenlooper wants a closer look at how Native Americans are portrayed in Colorado schools. He's ordering the creation of a commission to talk about the use of American Indian mascots. The move comes after a bill in the state Legislature to require tribal approval for using the imagery went nowhere in last year's session.

Governor Visits EPA Spill

Governor Hickenlooper in sending state resources to help out after last week's mine spill, affecting the Animas River. The governor issued an executive order yesterday, declaring a state of emergency. It allocates 500-thousand dollars from the state's Disaster Emergency Fund to help pay for the response. Three-million gallons of contaminated water were accidentally spilled by the EPA from a mine near Silverton last week.

It's Inauguration Day for Governor Hickenlooper. He will start his second term by taking the oath on the west steps of the State Capitol. The governor will be laying out his agenda for the next four years in his Inaugural Address.

New CDOT Leader

Governor Hickenlooper is making his pick for the new leader of CDOT. He named Shailen Bhatt to the post. Bhatt previously had a similar job for the State of Delaware. The appointment still has to be confirmed by the state Senate.

Governor Debate Tonight

Governor Hickenlooper and Republican challenger Bob Beauprez will meet in the race's second debate tonight.  It's being hosted by the "Denver Post."  The two met earlier this month in a debate at a Club 20 event in Grand Junction.
