Taxpayers in Grand Junction aren't willing to foot the bill to build a new event center. Voters rejected a quarter-percent sales tax increase yesterday that would have built an event center and made repairs to the Two Rivers Convention Center.

Central High Students Return to Class

Students at a Grand Junction high school will be returning to classes today after a threat forced police to evacuate their campus. Around 14-hundred students at Central High School were placed on lock-down when the threat was called in yesterday morning. Police evacuated students class by class, sending them to another high school to be reunited with their parents.

Event Center Proposed for GJ

Grand Junction residents will vote this spring whether or not to increase the city's sales tax from 2.7 to 3 percent to bankroll an event center.The proposed $62 million event center for Grand Junction will host concerts, rodeos and sporting events.

Bicycle Trail Project

A project to construct an offroad bike trail in Grand Junction is getting help from an oil and gas company. Fram Operating LLC is offering to provide extensive geological data to the Palisade Plunge project to help with the environmental impact study. Fram's data stems from its years of oil and gas exploration in the region.

Montrose County Arena Coming - GJ May Follow

Grand Junction city leaders are exploring and arena. The City Council is moving forward to draft a question for the April ballot for a multipurpose arena. KKCO is reporting a ballot question will likely include a proposed tax increase.

Trump Tuesday Visit

Donald Trump is coming to western Colorado. The Republican presidential nominee is expected to make two campaign stops tomorrow. He is reportedly going to stop in Grand Junction and Pueblo. Trump stopped in Denver and Colorado Springs on July 29th.

Teen Missing in Colorado River

Rescue crews are continuing the search for a missing teen in Grand Junction. The "Daily Sentinel" reports that the 17-year-old boy disappeared while swimming in the Colorado River on Wednesday. The boy wasn't wearing a flotation device.

Health officials say there are now five confirmed human cases of West Nile virus in Colorado , including one death. The latest victim has been treated for the virus and released from a hospital in Loveland.

United Says Airbus Had No Problem

United Airlines can't find any problems with a plane bound for Los Angeles from Denver that had to make an emergency landing. Half a dozen people got sick and one was hospitalized after the plane landed in Grand Junction on Wednesday.
