Skier Killed in Telluride

A Colorado Springs man is dead following a ski accident in Telluride. The San Miguel County Sheriff's Office says William Scott Elligott lost control yesterday, tumbling down some steep and wooded terrain. He was found with no pulse, and ski patrol was unable to revive him. Elligott was skiing with his daughter at the time. Sheriff Bill Masters says thoughts are with Elligott's family.

Skier Saved in Bear Creek

San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue personnel rescued an injured backcountry skier Saturday afternoon from the Bear Creek area in Telluride.

The 23 year-old Telluride man told Sheriff’s Deputies that he began his descent down the San Joaquin shoot in upper Bear Creek around 11am this morning with a friend. He reported that he skied about one-third of the way down to a narrow spot, hit some rocks and lost his balance, and tumbled the remaining two-thirds down the shoot.

Rescue in Telluride

At just before noon Tuesday San Miguel County Dispatch received a call from a party reporting an injured skier in the ‘Suicide Chutes’ area in Bear Creek. San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team leaders contacted the reporting party and determined an exact location.
The group of skiers involved were skilled and prepared backcountry users and began a packaging and extrication process for their friend, and a rally point was agreed upon.

Two Skiers Killed

Officials say two skiers have been killed in Colorado's high country yesterday. The Pitkin County Sheriff's Office reports a skier was killed in an avalanche just outside the Aspen ski area Monday.

Skier Killed Near Silverton

A skier is dead after getting caught in an avalanche this week southwest of Silverton. The female backcountry skier was washed into a stand of trees on Kendall Mountain when she was found yesterday by rescuers.
