Some Colorado hospitals are deciding not to prescribe lethal medication. Colorado voters decided to allow doctors to prescribe drugs designed to end a person's life.

Gunnison Death Ruled Suicide

The deceased victim of the reported suicide has been identified as 24 year old Gunnison resident, Kayla Martinez. On December 30th officers responded to 705 W. Ruby Ave. at 11:18 p.m. for a report of a possible suicide. Upon arrival officers performed CPR on the victim who had suffered an apparent gunshot wound to the head. An autopsy was completed on Monday, January 2nd. The Gunnison Police Department will have the results of the autopsy and toxicology later this month.

Gunnison police are investigating a possible suicide. The cops were called to the 700 block of west Ruby Avenue at around 11:30 PM on December 30th. The identity hasn't been released.

Physician Assisted Suicide Legal

A new Colorado law that allows terminally-ill patients to kill themselves with medication is now in effect. Governor Hickenlooper signed the proposition into law on Friday. The law allows those with terminal conditions to ask their doctors for prescriptions that can end their lives.

Suspected Suicide in Gunnison

Police suspect a Texas man shot himself in Gunnison last Tuesday. Police found 59 year old William Curtis outside of his vehicle on the 700 block of Taylor street.

Gunnison Police Say Hotel Death Suicide

On April 5th  Jesse Moss was found deceased in a room at a local hotel. The investigation into his death is complete. The results of the investigation along with the autopsy results clearly indicate that he took his own life by hanging.

Walk to Prevent Suicide

Gunnison High School is hosting an Out of the Darkness Walk to benefit suicide prevention programs. Walkers from Montrose are needed. Chris Peterson is one of the organizers, she says half the proceeds will assist the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention for research, and support survivors of suicide loss and the other half will benefit local programs.

Suicides Soar

In the wake of the third suicide by firearms in the last two weeks in San Miguel County, Sheriff Bill Masters says there is cause for concern and is encouraging the community to take meaningful steps to prevent another tragedy.

Norwood Man Dead

A Norwood man was found dead in his home with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound Sunday night. The man’s wife told San Miguel County Sheriff’s Deputies she heard a single gunshot at approximately 9:40pm from another room in their home and found her husband fatally shot in their bed.

Donnie R. Jones, 65 of Norwood is believed to have shot himself; an investigation is pending, however at this time, no foul play is suspected.
