Drug Bust in Delta

On May 18, 2017 officers of the Delta Police Department, with the assistance of deputies from the Delta County Sheriff’s Office and Montrose County Sheriff’s Office, conducted a search warrant at 960 Crawford Avenue in the City of Delta. The purpose of the warrant related to drugs, drug use and possession; drug manufacturing and distribution, firearms, cell phones and any other items which may be illegal, stolen or otherwise implicating in criminal activity. Four people were arrested as a result of the search warrant. Additional charges may be pending.

Deer with wasting disease found near Nucla

A mature buck deer that was found dead near Nucla in March has tested positive for chronic wasting disease, Colorado Parks and Wildlife has reported.

AG Coffman Defies Governor

Colorado Attorney General Cynthia Coffman is going against the wishes of Governor Hickenlooper and appealing a ruling on oil and gas regulations to the state Supreme Court. Coffman announced yesterday that she was appealing a ruling by the Court of Appeals that the state's oil and gas commission must consider public health and safety before making permit decisions. Coffman's decision came after the governor asked the attorney general to drop the appeal.

Habitat Homes in Ridgway

Habitat for Humanity of the San Juans has broken ground on their next housing project in Ouray County. They're building a triplex, with three townhomes, on North Laura Street, in Ridgway. Two years ago the Montrose based Habitat for Humanity affiliate expanded their service area to include Ouray and San Miguel Counties.Each three story townhome will be 1500 sq. ft., with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a garage.Habitat is looking for applicants for the dwellings.

Public Lands Day

Colorado will be celebrate its first-ever Public Lands Day this weekend. Governor Hickenlooper established the observance last year as a way to honor the importance of public lands throughout Colorado.

Storm Knocked Out Power to 4,500

A spring storm rolled in Wednesday afternoon, bringing with it heavy wet snow and widespread outages across Delta-Montrose Electric Association’s (DMEA) service territory. Snow began loading the lines and snapping tree branches as early as yesterday evening. It is estimated that approximately 4,500 members from across DMEA’s system were impacted by power interruptions.
Restoration efforts continued through the night and are still underway this morning. It is estimated that approximately 1,000 members in various locations remain without power.

SMPA Wants New Policy

San Miguel Power Association is seeking a new policy with their supplier, Tri-State. The Board wants Tri-State to increase the allowable amount of member self-generation from 5% to 10%. The second request is to assist communities hit hard by the announcement that Tri-State would be closing the Nucla power plant and associated coal mine.

Montrose Seeking Golf Management

The City of Montrose has issued a Request for Proposals from golf course management firms to oversee the operation, management, and maintenance of the Black Canyon Golf Course. The intent of the request is to obtain information, including fees, from companies specializing in the management of municipal golf facilities.
