Body Identified

Montrose County Sheriff’s Office recovered a woman’s body in the Sawmill Mesa area of the Uncompahgre Plateau Tuesday while assisting the Mesa County authorities to locate a missing woman.  The body has been identified as 47 year old  Jodie Anne Valerio,  of Grand Junction.  The cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy. Western Slope Biologist Wins National Award

Retired biologist Julie Grode from the, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests (GMUG NF) received a national award from the Mule Deer Foundation (MDF) for her advocacy to preserve and improve habitat for mule deer in Western Colorado.  Julie retired in October 2013 as the District Biologist for the Grand Valley Ranger District, Grand Junction.

Early Childhood Registration

Fatal Accident on Highway 550 South

A two vehicle accident on Highway 550 south of Montrose left one man dead Saturday afternoon. The crash occurred just before 5 near Government Springs Road. 49 year old Michael Alan Wagner of Minnesota died of multiple traumatic injuries. The cause of the accident has not been released.

Safeway has a new owner. According to United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7, the grocery store chain entered into a merger agreement with AB Acquisitions. That’s the parent company of Albertsons.  KDVR reports Albertsons does not expect to close any stores. A transaction this size is expected to take several months to finalize.
